SUB CLUBS

Most sports sections participate in National Tournaments held by ClubsNZ and United CT Assn held in New Zealand between the Clubs still maintaining an association with the Commercial travellers Network.

These are; Auckland, Hamilton, Rotorua, Tauranga, New Plymouth, Wanganui, Palmerston North and Christchurch.

Assistance for members travelling to these events is generally available provided the member has met some pre-set, participation criteria.

Club Championships are held every year and is supported by the Club by the sponsoring of prizes.

An event is also held each year to find the member who can perform well in a variety of sports. Each Sports Section is allocated specific months in which they can run raffles and fund raise without unfairly competing with other sections activities.

Pool & Snooker

This Sports Section is a strong contender (in all divisions) of the Southland Billiards And Snooker Association Inter-Club series held every winter between the Invercargill Clubs.

We can also boast that we’ve had Club members win the Southland A Grade Snooker Championship title.

The Club has a separate Billiard Room that houses 3 Full Size Billiard Tables including the table that was built specifically for the Final of the World Amateur Snooker Championships in 1986.

The Pool section has a strong contingent of members competing in a number of chartered club tournaments throughout New Zealand. Predominantly playing 8 ball the club also holds an annual club championship event which is always strongly contested.

Although the rules of 8 ball are fairly well known globally there are a few variations involved in the chartered club rules, which can make the game as interesting as it is fun.

Golf

This Section has at least one organised game of golf every month and will vary the event to incorporate different courses throughout Southland. As well as daily prizes, a green jacket is played for which entitles the winner to certain acclamation from other players. A highly sought after prize.

There is always strong contention for places in their National Tournament so criteria for qualifying and obtaining a travel subsidy is always intense. Those who do not support the monthly games are not likely to be considered.
